Alarming Statistics About Kids and Fires

MASSACHUSETTS - There are some alarming statistics about kids and fires. Every 90 seconds there is a fire in a home in the U.S. and half of those fires are started by kids. In light of what fire officials are calling a "growing epidemic", the International Association of Arson Investigators and the Coalition for Kids in Danger is kicking off its first National Arson Awareness Week. One fire investigator wants parents to educate their kids, "After a fire, we investigate and find out the parents say, we never knew my children knew where the matches were. We never knew how our child got a hold of a lighter," said Larry Brandoli. According to the 2 organizations, Massachusetts leads the nation in investigating and intervening with juveniles who start fires.
