LOCAL DISASTER RELIEF
Each year, the Pioneer Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross helps hundred
of those affected by disaster in the Pioneer Valley. We assist disaster victims in meeting
their emergency needs to include shelter, food, clothing and emotional support. It may be
a house fire, tornado, hurricane or earthquake; our volunteers will be there
providing much needed services, when YOU need it most. In the days and weeks to follow, a
caseworker works with the families to help them on the road to recovery. The caseworker
may assist with groceries, basic household furnishings and supplies or even referrals to
housing search agencies or government agencies that may have additional assistance.
Caseworkers work with the families to identify and determine what kind of assistance is
appropriate to the individual. The assistance we provide is by means of Red Cross
client assistance cards
that can be used at local supermarkets, restaurants, department and furniture stores. This
allows for the clients to make the choice of where they want to shop and what new items
they need.
